The Namsai district is situated at north eastern most part of the country and lies in between 95.45 to 96.20 E longitude and 27.30 to 27.55 N latitudes. The district has been curved out of Lohit district on 15th August, 2014. It has a geographical area of about 1587 sq km. The district is surrounded by Tinsukia district of Assam in the West & South West, Changlang district in the South & South East, Anjaw & Lohit in the East and Lohit in the North. According to the census of 2011, the district has a population of 95,950 out of which 14,246 (14.85%) are urban and 81,704 (85.15%) are rural population. The district has been divided in to three administrative CD blocks namely Namsai, Lekang and Chongkham; five administrative circle namely Lekang, Namsai, Piyong, Lathaoand Chongkham. There are 102 Gram panchayats covering 178 villages. Namsai district is endowed with rich natural resources, agro-climatic suitability to grow tropical, sub tropical, sub-temperate type of crops. Out of 158700 ha of geographical area; only 47874 ha is under net area sown. The forest cover of the district is 47.23%. The predominant crops of the district are Paddy, Maize, Ginger, Mustard, Potato, Oranges, Arecanut & Pineapple.

ICAR KVK Namsai was established under the administrative control of NRC on Yak (ICAR), Dirang, on 26th March, 2007 but later on it was handed over to ICAR RC for NEH Region on 1st April, 2017. As per the sanctioned strength, the KVK has a total 16 staff, headed by Senior Scientist and Head, 06 Subject Matter Specialist, 01 Farm Manager, 02 Programme Assistant, 02 Administrative staff, 02 drivers, 02 Supporting staffs.
